Lpg Tank Testing
LPG tanks in vehicles must be inspected once the container has been in use for 10 years. The tank needs to have everything from its’ structural condition to emergency pressure relief valves checked to make sure everything’s working as it should.
Once the tank has been inspected – and components replaced– it will be date stamped to confirm another 10 years of service life.
In Australia, LPG cylinders must be tested periodically to ensure safety. Here’s what you need to know:
Authorised Gas Cylinder Test Stations: Only these stations can service LPG tanks. They are certified to test and certify automotive LPG cylinders with the help of authorised LPG examiners.
Licensed Boiler Inspectors or Approved Gas Cylinder Testing Stations: When inspection of an LPG tank is required, the owner should enlist the services of either a licensed boiler inspector or an approved gas cylinder testing station. These stations are approved by Standards Australia for the type of cylinder to be tested.
Testing Frequency: LPG cylinders need to be tested every ten years by a licensed testing facility. If your cylinder is undamaged, it can be refilled any number of times prior to expiry. After 10 years, it must be inspected at a licensed test station by a certified tester.
